Rules & Regulations:
1) This Department is confined to boys and girls who are 8 to 18 as of January 1, 2008, and they are a Monroe Co. 4-H member or a resident of Monroe County and they attend Waterloo, Columbia, Valmeyer, and/or Red Bud School Districts.
2) All livestock shown in this department is subject to same health regulations as stated for the Open Class.
3) An exhibitor may make two entries under each premium number.
4) Lactating dairy cows are only required to be on the fairgrounds from 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 23, 2008, until after the show that afternoon.
5) Beef Market Animal class will be split into weight classes prior to show. When filling entry, use premium number for heavy weight class.

MONROE COUNTY 4-H & FFA BEEF SHOW & SALE RULES

1. Ownership and tattoo dates:
*Steers owned and personally cared for by exhibitor since February 1, 2008.
*Heifers, owned by June 1, 2008 and cows, owned by January 1, 2008
*Steers calved on or after January 1, 2007.
*Steers weighed and tattooed--between Feb.1 & March 15, 2008.

2. The 4-H/FFA member must meet the following requirements to be eligible to sell the market animal:
*Be a member of a 4-H club or an FFA chapter with a Jr. Showman age status.
*Be enrolled in a beef project and maintain records.
*4-H & FFA members - must attend club meetings.
*For 4-H members - present a talk or demonstration.
*4-H members must present an up-to-date record book at the June 4-H club meeting.
* New Members only must attend a Livestock Exhibitors Workshop prior to the County Fair.

3.. The 4-H/FFA members are responsible for bringing the animal to the final weigh-in, Monday, July 21, 2008.

4. Steers must be in place in the barn by 9 a.m. on Monday of the County Fair. No feed or Water after  9 a.m.

5. 4-H/FFA members are allowed to nominate two steers at the initial weigh-in, which will be exhibited at County Fair.  Additional steers can be weighed for State Fair competition.

6. If animal dies or if there is another problem causing the animal not to be exhibited and sold, the exhibitor MUST contact the Monroe County Extension Office as soon as possible.

7. The 4-H/FFA members will designate one steer for the sale at the final weigh-in.

8. Steers will be tattooed in an ear with a state designated tattoo when they are weighed.

9. Steers must be clean and be able to be controlled for both of the weigh-ins.

10. Sale order will be determined by random drawing held at the final weigh-in.

11. Steers ONLY can be sold and will be classified as:
"A" Rating..... Salable
"B" Rating..... Salable
"C" Rating..... Not eligible for sale

12. All steers must be halter broken for the show.

13. Participants are responsible for delivery of the animal to the processor.

14. Seller is responsible for carcass if rejected by inspector.

15. Seller is responsible for animal until delivered to buyer's destination.

16. 4-H and FFA members are responsible for helping recruit potential buyers.

RULES FOR MONROE COUNTY FFA and 4-H MARKET LAMB/GOAT SALE

1. Only 4-H and FFA members are eligible to sell and they must meet the following criteria:
* Be a member of a local 4-H Club or FFA Chapter and be of Jr. showman age status.
* Be enrolled in a sheep project and maintain records.
* 4-H/FFA members who have a market lamb project MUST have the market lamb(s) weighed through the premier program.
* New members only must attend a Livestock Exhibitors Workshop prior to County Fair.
* Members must attend their 4-H/FFA meetings.
* For 4-H members- must present a talk or demonstration.
* 4-H members must present an up-to-date record book at the June 4-H club meeting.

2. Only wether lambs or ewe lambs will be allowed to be sold.

3. Only wether or market female of dairy, pygmy and meat-type goats may sell at the goat sale. They will
be sold by the head.

4. Lambs and goats will be weighed and tattooed on May 10th. Goats must be disbudded. The final weigh-in
 will be at the County Fair.

5. Any animal entered in Junior or 4-H Market Animal Class is eligible for sale, and will be classified as:
"A" Rating....Salable
"B" Rating....Salable
"C" Rating....Not eligible for sale

6. Only one lamb/goat per owner can be sold.

7. Lambs and goats will be sold in the order of a lottery system.

8. 4-H and FFA exhibitors are responsible for recruiting potential buyers.

Jr. Market Animal Rules and Regulations
1. Swine Market Animals exhibited in the Jr. show will be split into respective classes after they are weighed. When filling out entry, use the premium number for the heavy weight classes in the respective division (Commercial and/or XBred). *You can enter up to 6 barrows and 6 gilts in each division (Commercial and X-Bred), all 6 should be entered in the respective weight class.

2. Only two Swine Market Animals can be exhibited under each weight bracket. Classes will be divided with this in mind, though if class breaks result in an exhibitor having 3 hogs within the same class, he or she will have to decide which 2 will be shown.

3. Swine Market Animal Class Breaks will be done by Jr. Show Superintendents. Class breaks are final.

JUNIOR ON-FOOT AND CARCASS SHOW,  July 23, 2008
Rules and Regulations:
1) All rules and regulations of the Open Premier Show apply to the Junior Premier Show including the following.

2) Animals must be born on or after January 26, 2008 and no later than March 1, 2008.

3) Barrows must be castrated prior to tattooing.

4) All pigs must be tattooed, ear notched, and weighed before they are 35 days of age.  Pigs may not weigh over the equivalent of 1.0 pounds per day of age.

5) Junior Exhibitors may nominate a total of 6 hogs. The 6 hogs nominated may be any combination of barrows and gilts, but only 1 barrow and 1 gilt may be entered and exhibited in the Junior On-Foot and Carcass show.

6) Barrows and Gilts must weigh a minimum of 240 pounds on the day of the show.  There will NOT be an upper weight limit.

7) Junior Premier market animals can not be exhibited in Open Classes.

RULES FOR MONROE COUNTY FFA and 4-H SWINE MARKET ANIMAL SALE

1. Only 4-H and FFA members are eligible to sell and they must meet the following criteria:
* Be a member of a local 4-H Club or FFA Chapter and be of Jr. showman age status.
* Be enrolled in a swine project and maintain records.
* Members must attend their 4-H/FFA meetings.
* For 4-H members - must present a talk or demonstration.
* 4-H and FFA members must present an up-to-date record book at the June 4-H club meeting.
* New members only must attend a livestock Exhibitors workshop prior to County Fair.

2. One animal per owner may be sold and will be classified as:
"A" Rating....Salable
"B" Rating....Salable
"C" Rating....Not eligible for sale

3. Animals must weigh between 235-270 lbs. and paint branded.

4. Seller will deliver to processor.

5. Terms of sale are CASH only. Settlement to be made before animal is moved.

6. A 1% handling charge on sale prices will be made by the Monroe County Pork Producers.

7. The highest placing animal must be sold if the exhibitor has 2 entries.

8. Only one weighing will be done and that weight will be used for rule weight.

RULES FOR THE MONROE COUNTY 4-H AND FFA RABBIT MEAT PEN AND SINGLE FRYER SALE

1. The judge will evaluate the meat pens (Open, junior and 4-H), at the same time.  Which should be the first class of the show will be agreed upon by the judges and the superintendents.  The following procedure will be followed:
* The SUPERINTENDENTS will weigh each rabbit in the meat pen, AT 11:00 a.m. on Monday.
* After weighing, the judge will evaluate and place the meat pens for the Open, Junior and 4-H ratings.

2. The minimum weight of each meat pen  or single fryer rabbit is 3 pounds and  the maximum weight of
each rabbit is 5 lbs. The rabbit must not be over 69 days.

3. Meat pen rabbits should be a meat pen breed (California, New Zealand, or other large boned breeds)

4. In the 4-H Show, the meat pens and single fryers will receive blue, red and white ribbons.

5. All meat pens and single fryers rated with blue and red ribbons will be eligible to sell.

6. 4-H or FFA members will only be allowed to sell one meat pen or one single fryer entry. The exhibitor must inform the 4-H superintendent of their decision at the judging.

7. Only 4-H and FFA members are eligible to sell and they must meet the following criteria:

1. Trio will consist of 3 broiler fryers ( 3 cockerels OR 3 pullets) of the same sex.
2. Each broiler fryer must weigh 8-12 lbs.
3. Trio Broiler fryers should be a broiler type breed (Cornish/Rock Cross or large meat Breeds)
4. All trio's awarded with blue & red ribbons will be eligible to sell.
5. Only one trio will be eligible to sell per 4-H or FFA member.

     Only First Year members need to attend a Livestock Exhibitors Workshop prior to County Fair.

Rules and Contest Information

1. Entry is restricted to ONE premium number only. Competitor must have at least one animal entered in the junior show corresponding to the premium number entered within this division.

2. Dairy exhibitors are eligible to enter the cattle competition and goat exhibitors are eligible to enter the sheep competition.

3. Contest will begin 8:00 am Tuesday, July 22, 2008. Swine contest will begin immediately following market hog weigh-in on the same day. Rabbit contest will begin 11:00 am Wednesday, July 23, 2008. Cattle and sheep participants should report to the beef show arena prior to start time. Swine participants should remain at the swine show arena after weigh-in. Rabbit participants should report to the show area of the poultry/rabbit barn.

Contest will consist of three components within each premium number:

A) Skillathon - visual learning demonstrations requiring a written response.
Each section will test concepts expected to be covered in the respective projects.
Total score possible is 100 points.

B) Management Test - a written examination covering all aspects of production for the species relevant to the premium number.
It will contain 20 to 25 questions totaling 100 points toward the overall competition.

C) Judging Contest - two classes (1 market animal and 1 breeding animal) containing 4 animals each will be placed and scored against official judges placing. Maximum possible score is 50 points per class.
